Is chiseling with an air hammer or torching my only way to go to get a lug nut off of a stripped wheel stud?

The lug nut itself is fine (not rounded off) and it just spins and spins but won't come off. I believe the wheel stud is stripped and need to know how to carefully remove the lug nut without damaging the rim, so that I can replace the wheel stud. If chiseling is the way to go, any recommendations on bits and techniques would be appreciated as I've never done this before...lol. Thanks!!

P.S. It's an '03 Nissan Maxima with disk brakes. The lug nut has a rounded off cap and is set back into the rim quite a bit. I can't even get my fingers in there let alone any tools besides a socket. I would think that I would have to start in the center and chisel that cap off in order to get to the flats of the nut. Thanks!!

You are in a tough spot. The only way I can think of doing it is to take the rounded cap off the lug, using a chisel, etc.

You cannot reach anything from behind, and you could never use a grinder.

Then carefully using a torch, melt the stud out using the actual lugnut as a guide and protection from the wheel.

Be really careful not to overheat the wheel.

I think you are safer, getting a REALLY REALLY good drill bit. Put on the socket on top of the lug nut to use as a guide and drill the stud straight through. It will take a while but its the safest bet.
