What do you think the top reasons that my 1996 GMC Sonoma 4-cylinder is getting a sad 18 MPG for highway?
It's not suppoed to be this bad.
IT'S A 4-CYLINDER.
When it was time for me to get a truck, I deliberately made the choice to go for a compact truck and when I found out the GMC Sonoma came in the 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder models, I figured it was a no brainer so I got the 4-cylinder. But unfortunately, the gas is a bad 17-19 MPG for highway miles.
On paper, it said 19 MPG for city and 30 MPG for highway.
Aren't all these NEW cars with MORE HORSEPOWER getting 30 MPG?
And what can I do to make this estimated 18 MPG for highway improve all the way to at least 28-30 MPG for the highway?
Perhaps you need to change your driving habits. And I've never trusted those mpg ratings because alot of them the car was a dyno and never actually touched the road. And that is not actual driving conditions. And I think 18 mpg is pretty good.
